Quality is fundamental in the life-saving business of civil defence shelters; standards are a means to achieve better quality. For this reason, Temet has been heavily involved in the creation of the newly released ISO 22359 standard. According to the International Organization for Standardization this new standard applies to: "endeavours to protect citizens, assets and important societal functions against harmful effects of hazards" (ISO). This standard sets guidelines focused on the very core of our operations at Temet, and we are thrilled to see our work come into effect.
The published ISO standard establishes a solid groundwork for all stakeholders intending to design and implement protective structures. By following the guidelines set forth in the standard, customers can ensure that no vital aspects of good shelter practices are overlooked or forgotten. Furthermore, the guidelines guarantee that customers get value for their investment and that the vendors’ offers start from equal footing, states our CCO, Arto Kaikkola.
Temet's Advisor, Jyrki Ronkainen, believes that there is room for improvement in the design, use, and maintenance of civil defense shelters across the global market. These challenges could be addressed with unified operating principles such as ISO guidelines. At Temet, we embrace change towards a better tomorrow and are excited about improvements in our industry.
Initiated by Temet in 2021, the ISO Technical Committee and its Working Group have been preparing this standard, which aims to level the playing field for companies globally. Today, we are proud to see the publication and are happy to make ourselves available once again for any further standardization efforts.
